Acting the love of God

In last week’s Calvary Temple Classics blog post we looked at the fact that God is good. Not only did we see that He is good, but we also saw that He is the origin of goodness. This week we want to take a look at God’s love and how that relates to us. God does not only know how to love, He is love. There is no love outside of Him.

We see the scripture at all the football games right? John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes on him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” That pretty much sums up God’s love for us right there. God bankrupt heaven and gave everything He had to redeem you. He gave up the most precious thing to Him (His son) so that you could have eternal life. That love is what separates religion from Christianity. You see religion is reaching out to love a deity. Christianity is a loving God who reached down to man and reconciled man to Himself. He who knew no sin became sin with our sin, so that we could become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. There’s nothing that you had to do or have to do to earn that love!

The puresGod-is-lovet love man can produce cannot compare to the love of God. Even the greatest love you can think of (the love between husband and wife or parent and child) at its core still has some selfishness in it. God loves a world that hates Him. He loves a world that curses His name, that despises His commandments, and that tramples upon the blood of His son Jesus. Despite all that, His love continues to flow forth. He continues to reach out to this lost and dying world to try and bring them to Himself. In 2 Peter 3:9 it says that He’s not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. That’s God’s love for you-totally pure, totally unselfish, and totally God!! His love is the greatest force in operation today.

So we see that God loves us, but there is another very important aspect of this love that we are going to look at today. That is the fact we are to love as we have been loved. Have you ever truly thought about that statement before? We are to love one another as Christ loved us! That’s a pretty powerful thought. He gave everything, and that’s what He expects us to do for others. John 15:13 says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay his life down for his friends.” A few verses later in verse 17 we see that He commands us to love one another. You want to know if you’ve passed from death unto life? You want to know if you are truly born again? Ask yourself these questions, “Do I love my brothers and sisters and do I have a love for the lost?”CD-210020-2

Love demands action! Others see the love of God in your life by your action. Too often though we don’t show this love like we should. Oh we say we love one another, but love is manifest, not just spoken. We say we love one another, but then we hold grudges, walk right past lost souls, or refuse to rebuke sin. You’re just too busy. You can’t imagine condescending to the level of your brother. That’s not Godly love!! We are to freely love as we have been loved!

Can you imagine the muck and the mire Jesus went through to save you? You weren’t even seeking Him, but He loved you. Despite all the things you may have been involved in, He looked at you and didn’t see you as you are, but He saw you as what you could be in Him. When Father looks at you, every sin you’ve committed has been forgiven and forgotten. WHAT LOVE!! Is that how you see others? Are you forgiving as you’ve been forgiven? Are you as longsuffering with your brothers and sisters as your heavenly Father has been with you? Ephesians 4:2 says we are to forbear one another in love. “Well what’s in it for me?” Nothing!! Was there any reason for God to send His son to die for you? The love of God is a love that gives and expects nothing in return. The love of God is a love that gives even if that person hates you! Perfect love casts out fear! It’s not worried about self, acceptance, rejection, or failure. His love never fails and ours shouldn’t either!

share-gods-love-550x320“Why is this so important?” Well, first of all He commanded us, but just as important is the fact that loving one another is how the world will know that we are His disciples (John 13:35). The ultimate revelation of God is that we love Him with all of our heart and that we love our neighbors as our self. We’ve talked a lot about the fact that we are living in a wicked, lost, and dying generation. But God still loves these people! God is still reaching out to them, and the only way they know that is through the love of God actively working in your life! They see it by how you love your friends and your family with a Godly love. They see it when you reach out to them and share the gospel with them. They see it when, after you reach out to them and they reject you, that you still love them and care for them! Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16). Behold how they love one another!

God is Good!

In the last few months we have looked at “How we can keep our faith from failing” and we’ve looked at the fact that “Ye are Gods”. Praise God! He is good Amen!! You’ve probably heard that expression before right? “God is good. All the time.” Well this week that’s what we want to look at: God’s goodness towards us.

fsgcp-bible-trust-GodMost of us believe God’s not good. “Wow, that’s an interesting opening statement! What are you saying Jason? I would never say that.” You’re right, I probably wouldn’t say that either, but far too often our actions absolutely back this up. We say with our mouths God is good, but then we begin to rely on self and have alternate plans. Oh, we don’t think we know more than God. We just question His Word and His timing. We doubt His methods and His character. We demand independence when God demands complete surrender. In fact it’s that independence that blinds us from God’s goodness. The more independent you become, the more you are judging God as an absentee Father. Your insistent independence is saying, “He won’t provide for me, so I have to go provide for myself.” Are you beginning to find yourself in that opening statement yet? Maybe I wasn’t so wrong after all…

Friends, God is truly good. That doesn’t just mean that He does good things or is capable of being good. God IS good! The origin of goodness is God! He doesn’t have the capability to not be good. Psalms 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trgod is goodusteth in Him.” We need to trust in God’s goodness towards us. He’s a merciful, kind, loving, faithful Father who wants to do you good and not evil all the days of your life. His mercy and His goodness endure for ever! Do you believe that today? Do you believe that Father’s intention for you is good,  no matter what your circumstances currently are? And if you say you believe, does the character of your life back that up? Is your absolute trust, reliance, and assurance in His plan for your life?

The world is constantly selling us a bill of goods that calls God a liar. We’re told by physicians that we need them to heal us. We’re told by financial advisers what we need to do to be successful. We’re told by psychologists what we need to have true peace and contentment. We’re told by Madison Avenue that we gotta have this or we need to get that if we truly want to be happy. But the reality is God has already provided all those things for us. Isaiah 53:5 says that, “by his stripes we are healed”. It says in Philippians 4:19 that, “God shall supply all of our needs according to his riches and glory in Christ Jesus”. And in I Timothy 6:6 it says that, “Godliness with contentment is great gain”. It’s all there for you! Stop trusting in this world’s system and Satan’s lies and start believing the promises of God. If you seek the kingdom with all of your heart, then nothing that you need in your life will be absent! Happy is the people whose God is the Lord!! GOD’S WILL, WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY IF YOU SUBMIT TO IT!

john-3-16Let me ask you one last question. Are you a fair trade straight across for Jesus? That’s what it cost. You want to know how God sees you? He traded Jesus straight up for you! That’s how He sees you today. What a statement! God is so good! Even if we never received anything else on this earth this should be enough. How much do you appreciate what He’s done for you? Your heavenly Father gave His only son, so that you could have eternal life! I don’t know about you, but when I hear that it just brings me to my knees with gratitude and thanksgiving! Beloved, find your worth and boast in the accomplished work of Jesus! You are His child, and He’s called you by name! What a blessing!! So as we end for this week, see God’s goodness in His plan for your life! Purpose in your heart that no matter what the situation or circumstance (good or bad), that it is God’s will. And His will is good; anything other than that ultimately will bring sorrow and death! GOD IS GOOD! ALL THE TIME!!

Blessed-Hope-slide-3For the last couple of weeks we have been talking about the return of the Lord. In our first post we talked about “The Blessed Hope” and our need to be ready. Last week we looked at the “warning” the Word of God gives us about things that will hinder us from being ready. This week we want to further look at the need to share with the lost in these last days as the return of the Lord is imminent.

In Matthew 5:14 Jesus said we are the light of the world and that we are to let our light shine before all men. Can you say that about your life today? What are you doing with the call God has placed on your life to go into all the world and preach the gospel? Beloved, we as the church are the people with all the answers, yet for too many of us are hiding out. Too many of us are content to just sit back and wait for God to bring somebody to us. If you believe Jesus is coming back soon, then stop letting people just pass you by. We must go out and start proclaiming the word of God to this lost and dying generation.

Have you shared Jesus with somebody today? I’m not just talking about going out passing out tracts or saying Jesus loves you. Have you gone out and shared withlet-your-light-shine-mat5-16 somebody what Jesus has done for you and what He can do for them? Jesus was the visible representation of an invisible God. We are the visible representation of the invisible Jesus. We are the body of Christ here on this earth. Oh, intellectually we are aware of it, but do we practice it? Friends, we are the only Jesus some of these people are going to ever see. They’re not going to be reading the Bible; they’re going to read your life. Jesus gave his life for the world, and we are required to do the same. We are to lay our lives down for the lost. FREELY YOU HAVE RECEIVED FREELY GIVE!!

In the previous blog post we read in 2 Timothy 3 that in the last days many will have a form of Godliness but deny the power thereof. This doesn’t mean that they deny the existence of the power. This means they deny it flowing to the world. The book of Acts tells us that we will be endued with power from on high as we are filled with the Holy Spirit. Where is the power in your life today? If you believe Jesus’ return is imminent, you won’t be so nonchalant about the lack of power in your life to raise the dead, heal the sick, and cast out devils. We have been empowered to be witnesses and the only thing that will cause the power of God to work in your life is to be busy about Father’s business. You’re not going to see the power of God manifested in your life by sitting in front of the television. You’re not even going to see the power of God manifested in your life by sitting in church or staying at home reading your Bible. If you are going to see the power of God manifested in your life you are going to have to go DO SOMETHING!

tell-somebodyIs the kingdom of God the most important thing to you today? Did you wake up this morning desiring to share the love of Jesus with somebody? Brothers and sisters, if we truly believe that we are the generation that is going to see the coming of the Lord, we must begin to go out and speak the things we’ve seen and heard. HE COMMANDED US!! God wants to give you souls, but He can’t if we are holding something back from Him. He can’t if we have a form of Godliness and no power. When they were filled in the upper room, they didn’t linger there and fellowship. They didn’t organize a Sunday school class. They were filled, and then they went! Many of us are wondering why the power of God is not flowing in our lives. It’s because we need to GO!! There’s only one way to learn how to cast out a devil and that’s to go out and cast out a devil! There’s no class for that. These signs shall follow those that believe!

As we close for today, beloved, we need to have a hunger for lost souls! Not just a witnessing campaign, but we need to have a desire to see people set free! We need to show them that Jesus is alive in our lives! We need to go out and challenge them with the love of God and with the power and authority of the name of Jesus! To show them that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes to the Father but by Him! It’s not going to happen through television, or radio, or any other form of mass media (although these things are certainly helpful). It’s going to happen as we are obedient to the call of God that He has placed on our lives to GO! It’s going to come not as we tell them about God, but as we show them the power of God and how it’s working in our life! Don’t be someone who just knows the Word of God, be somebody that DOES IT!! JESUS IS COMING BACK SOON! GO AND TELL SOMEBODY!!

  • Review By: Jason Felton

In last week’s Calvary Temple Classics blog post we talked about “The Blessed Hope” and the fact that Jesus is coming back soon. We saw in the scriptures that He is coming for those who love His appearing and who are looking for Him. How did you do this past week? Were you looking up and preparing yourself for the Lord’s return? Did you get a chance to share the gospel with somebody and let them know of His imminent return? I’m sure many of us had good intentions, but how many of you followed through with these things? If you’re like me, you probably faced some distractions this past week that took your focus away from the kingdom of God and Jesus’ return. That’s what we want to talk about this week. The warning the Bible gives us about the last days!

In 2 Timothy 3 it says, “In the last days perilous times shall come. Men shall be lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.” So we see repenthere that as the return of the Lord draws nigh we are going to face more and more distractions and temptations. Look around you! Everywhere you turn there is something vying for your attention. You have thousands of tv channels and the internet. In the palm of your hand you have a device that puts the world at you fingertips. Everywhere you look there is something that is trying to draw you away from your relationship with God. All around you there are things that are trying to distract you from being busy about Father’s business and from his soon return. Oh, these things in and of themselves aren’t wrong, but when we begin to love them more and delight in them more than we do God then it’s sin!! When we become lovers of this world and the things it can offer us  more than lovers are God we are in sin!!

“Well Jason I don’t really struggle too much with those things!” Well first of all you’re probably deceived. In all of our lives there are things that are trying to draw us away from the presence of God. Maybe it’s not one of those things I mentioned above, but in your life there is a daily battle against the lust of your flesh, the lust of your eyes, and the pride of life. But let’s for a moment assume that you don’t deaHFPl with these things. As we read on in 2 Timothy 3 we see another thing that we will contend with in the last days. It talks about having a form of Godliness, or another way to see that is just being religious.

It says in I Timothy 4:1 that “many shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.” This isn’t talking about some Satanic dark demonic power that’s going to overtake people per se. It’s talking about the rise of the apostate religious system. It’s talking about a crossless Christianity or a compromise of the Word of God. You see it all around us today. The narrow path that Jesus mentions we are to walk on has been broadened by man. The church has become more about God’s love and what you can get from Him instead of what you should be giving and doing for Him. Case in point, how much teaching do you here these days out there like you’ve read about on this blog? How many churches out there are teaching about some of the subjects we have talked about such as the Lord’s return, or taking up your daily cross, or trusting God through the trials of life that he orchestrates for our good so that we can become more like Him? Everything you hear today is about love, tolerance, and acceptance. Yes, he is a loving God and is not willing that any should perish, but He also is a holy God that is jealous and will not share his glory with anything or anybody else. He is a God of judgment and justice.

ice

So as you examine your life today where do you find yourself? I’m not saying these things to scare you. This is the Word of God. We just looked at Timothy today, but other scriptures such such as Matthew 24:12 and Matthew 25:1 talk about the love of many waxing cold in the last days as sin abounds and our need to watch and be prepared for the coming of the Lord. Are you ready? What in this world have you allowed to slowly draw you away from your relationship with God? Do you have a form of Godliness or a true relationship with your Heavenly Father? Have you been drawn away by the seducing spirits and the smooth religious talkers of today that tell you there is a broad way or another path other than what the Word of God has told us? Beloved there is NO OTHER WAY!! So as we end for this week REJOICE for our redemption does draw nigh, but also BE WARNED because Satan is going to throw everything in his arsenal at you to keep you from being ready for that day!! Thank God for his promise though that he that endures to the end SHALL BE SAVED!!!!

  • Review By: Jason Felton

In last week’s Calvary Temple Classics blog post entitled “Light of the World” we talked about the true meaning of Christmas and how during this busy season we need to be out telling people that the little baby born in the manger grew up! That Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we could have eternal life if we surrender our lives to Him! This week we want to talk about a subject that almost nobody talks about and that is the fact that Jesus who was died and rose again for us is coming back very soon. We want to talk about The Rapture.

In the scripture mentioned above, I Thessalonians 4:16 says that we which are alive and remain will be caught up in the clouds and meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with Him. This is one of the main scriptures referring to the rapture of the church. Ththe-rapture-banneris is the blessed hope that is mentioned in II Timothy 2:13! What a promise!! I don’t know about you, but I’m getting home sick. “When will this be,” you ask? Matthew 24:36 says that no man (not even the angels) know the day or the hour. Oh there are definitely signs given to us in the Bible that we can look for that will determine the time frame, but no man knows the exact date and time. You know what though? If you’re ready, it doesn’t matter!! That brings us to New Year’s Resolution number one! BE READY!!!

The scriptures indicate that the Lord will come as a thief in the night. “How can I be ready?” Luke 21:28 tells us to look up for our redemption draws nigh! The children of light are continually looking for the return of the Lord. He is coming for those who love his appearing. He’s not coming for those who just believe He could come back, but for those who are actively looking. Now this doesn’t mean you just walk around looking up all day long. It means that we are to be living lives of purity and holiness. Lives that are wholly devoted to Him. Ephesians 5:27 says that He is coming for a bride without spot or wrinkle or any such blemish! He is coming for a people who are separate from the world. What’s the condition of your life today? Have you been purifying yourself to become more like Jesus? Are you looking for Him on a daily basis? If you truly believe that He’s coming back soon it will affect the way you live. Your investments will become of the eternal realm and not the temporal treasures of this earth. That brings us to New Years Resolution number 2! TELL SOMEBODYevangelismnow!!

The last couple weeks we have been talking about the great commission! You have been tasked to go into all the world and preach the gospel. You have been given the responsibility to herald the good news. If you believe Jesus is coming back soon shouldn’t you be telling somebody about it? The consequences of missing the rapture is eternal damnation! There are no second chances!! So often we pray “Come quickly Lord Jesus”, but beloved we need to take some fruit with us! If you knew Jesus was coming back at midnight would you live your life differently? Would you call up your loved ones, round up your neighbors, or maybe stay a few extra hours late at work to spend more time sharing with your co-workers? If most of us were honest with ourselves we probably would do things a lot differently! The bottom line is we don’t really believe that Jesus could come back at any moment, because if we did we would already be doing these things with much more fervency then we are now. What’s the fruit of your life? We already saw that no man knows the day or the hour! We need to be out sharing the gospel! Somebody shared with you right? Those who are forgiven much are to love much! HIS RETURN IS IMMINENT! GOTTA TELL SOMEBODY!!Happy-New-Year-Copy

So as another year winds down and we enter a new one, don’t make your top resolution about weight loss or changing this habit or that habit. Make your resolutions eternal! Jesus is coming back soon and we need to be ready! Jesus is coming back soon and all around us there are people who are lost and going to a Devil’s Hell. Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation. Become more like Jesus in 2015 than you were in 2014. Become a bold witness for Christ and ask Him to give you a heart of compassion for the lost! The fields are white unto harvest and it’s time to put in the sickle! JESUS IS COMING! IT’S SOONER THEN WE FIRST BELIEVED!!!

“Born to Die” is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs. I grew up listening to it. I love the lyrics to the second verse:

m2c

It must have broken God’s heart
For the future He could see.
Yet He formed the hands
And feet knowing one day
They’d be nailed to a tree.
So all the world could know Him,
A gift came from above.
For God so loved the world
That He gave His only Son.

I love Christmas and everything about it! I love the gift giving, the plays, the parties, the decorations, and all the songs. But Christmas really isn’t about any of these things. Oh yes it’s great to gather with friends and family, but as the old saying goes “Jesus is the reason for the season.” The second verse of this song is so powerful; isn’t it? “God formed the hands and feet knowing one day they’d be nailed to a tree.” “God so loved the world that He gave His only son.” Christmas is the invasion of God into humanity to reconcile us back to Himself. He invaded this world with His glory and power so that He could bring peace on earth and goodwill toward men. What a blessing!! And you know what?? He did that for YOU!!

charlie brownWhat does Christmas mean to you? For many it’s a joyous occasion, but for many the time around Christmas and New Years is one of the saddest times of the year. It’s actually a time where suicide rates are the highest. Many people start looking back at their lives over the past year and are depressed at what did or didn’t take place. Many people don’t have family and friends they can celebrate with. The reason so many are depressed and downcast isn’t because of the circumstances (although those can definitely have an affect). It’s because they don’t have Jesus in their hearts. He is not Lord of their lives. Praise God though that we have the answers to their dilemmas! We have the words of eternal life that can set them free from the bondage of sin and death! We know the one who is the saviour of their souls! JESUS!!!

This Christmas what kingdom do you find yourself savoring? Are you caught up with the things of this earth or are you caught up with the things of God? Are you busy shopping, partying, and gift giving (nothing wrong with any of these things in and of themselves) or are you busy sharing with others what Christmas is truly about? Which kingdom do you treasure? Beloved, Jesus is the light of the world and you as a Christian are the representation on this earth of that light. Do you see yourself as that today? You have been called and tasked of God to go out and bring illumination. What a great calling and privilege we have!! We need to be out there letting people know that cute, little baby Jesus who was laying in the manger grew up! He took on the principalities and powers of darkness and died on the cross for our sins so we could have eternal life. In 2 Corinthians 5:21 it says that He was made sin with our sins so that we could be made righteous with his righteousness! HALLELUJAH!!salvation

This Christmas let’s not forget the great commission Jesus gave us. He instructed us to go into all the world and preach the gospel!! He told us to look unto the fields for they are white unto harvest!! So as you gather together with friends and family, you attend that office party, or you hit the stores looking for that last minute gift. Don’t forget to look at all the people around you who are lost and hurting without Jesus. Then don’t just see them, but share with them the gospel the good news. That Jesus was born to die! He was nailed to a tree for them and rose again so that they could have eternal life! YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD!!

  • Scripture: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
  • Review By: Jason Felton

In this weeks Calvary Temple classics blog post I want to talk about one of the greatest privileges we have as believers and that is the ability God has given us to go into all the world and preach the gospel. In Matthew 28:19 Jesus instructed the disciples to go into the nations and make disciples of all men, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In our lives today we need to be doing the same.tgc

Interesting question above isn’t it? “Are you a witnesser or a witness?” Acts 1:8 says that “ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, Judaea, Samaria, and into the uttermost parts of the earth.” You’re probably asking right now “what’s the difference?”.  Well, a “witnesser” is somebody who just talks about Jesus and a “witness” is somebody who has encountered Jesus. There are a lot of “witnessers” out there today! People will be diligent to pass our tracts, say Jesus loves you, have bake sales, post scriptures on facebook, etc…. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with any of those things, but that’s not what affects people. What affects people is the resurrected power of the living God working in someone’s life. Our transformation is confirmation of His resurrection.

“How do I know which one I am?” Well, we saw in Acts 1:8 that ye shall be witnesses, but before that statement it says “after the Holy Ghost has come upon you.” Beloved, to be an effective witness we need to be full of the Holy Ghost. You’re life must be empowered to be an example of the believer in word and in deed. Regeneration in and of itself is not sufficient to power us in this hour that we are in to be effective witnesses for Jesus. Oh, it’s sufficient to be born again or to have eternal life, but we need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit if we are going to have the power to carry out this great commission the Lord has given us.  Now, this doesn’t mean your always walking around like you’re on steroids. Being full of the Holy Spirit will allow the power to be available to you when you need to partake of it. And when that power is appropriated to you as needed, then demons will flee, then knees will bow, then tongues will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Another way to know that the Spirit of God is working in your life as a true witness is that you will become repulsive to the world. Matthew 10:22 says that “you will be hated of all men for His namesake” and in John 15:18 it says that they will hate you because they hated Him first. That’s not a pleasant thought to think about, but it’s true. If you are an effective witness, the world will hate you becauswitnessese your life will condemn them of the sin that dominates them.  Do people know that you’re different? Is that a reality in your life? If it is then this hatred for you will not be passive. In 2 Timothy 3:12 it says that “all that live Godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Oh, you may not be beaten or killed like those of the first century church, but they’ll begin to mock you. Your family members will begin to separate themselves from you. You may lose your job. What are you going to do in those situations? Jesus has called us to be  bold witnesses for Him and He said that if you deny Him before men, He will deny you before his Father. Oh you would probably never verbally deny Jesus, but how about with your actions? Many of us cower down on the job or we guard our speech in the neighborhood because we don’t want to offend anybody. Brothers and Sisters He wasn’t afraid to identify with you! What are you going to do to identify with Him to be truly called a Christian? Can you today (knowing what it will cost you) say “here am I lord, send me”!!

Friends, we can’t be passive as Christians. The kingdom of Heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force! We have a sword (the Word of God) and it’s time to share with people that what they believe to be true is a lie. That the gods of this world are worthless and that there is NO other name under Heaven by which men can be saved, but the name of JESUS!! We need to be confidently declaring this Word as we are out in the highways and byways. You don’t have to involved in foreign missions to reach lost souls. What about your job? What about your neighbors? What about your family members? You could spend the rest of your life (24 hours a day) in your city for God and not exhaust the opportunities that are available to you to share the gospel!! What a great call God has placed on our lives!! one way

As we close for today I want to leave you with one last thing. You can’t speak these things with conviction if it’s not a reality in your own life. You can’t be a witness until you’ve hung out with Jesus. Becoming a witness is based on relationship or the working knowledge of God. You have to encounter Him. You have to KNOW him and not just know about Him. You have to be full of the Holy Ghost. In these last days we need to embrace the heart of the master and look unto the fields for they are white unto harvest. We need to pray the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth laborers. That doesn’t mean someone else, that means you! Are you ready to be used up for Jesus? It can’t be just talk!! Are you going to be a “witnesser” or are you going to be a “witness”?

FAITH X PATIENCE + CONFESSION X ACTION = RESULTS

Hopefully everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This week we are going to review another teaching on faith. A few months back we talked about how we can keep our faith from failing. Today we want to talk about what can actually cause our faith to be tripped up and that is a heart of unbelief.faith

I love the title of this teaching! It’s basically saying that faith with patience plus confession with action equals results. “Jason, I was never very good with math.” I’m not either (ask my old algebra teacher Pastor Jeff Heglund). Basically what this is saying is that if we have these things working in tandem we will see positive results. While we know there are no “formulas” for Christian living, we do find in the Word of God that these aspects are very important in living a life of faith.

Why are these four aspects important? James 2:17 says that “faith without works is dead.” Basically, this is saying that you cannot have faith without action. Faith without action is worthless. James 1:3 says that “the trying of our faith works patience”. Here we see that the Lord uses trials in our life to bring about patience. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If we are going to live a life of faith we must be rooted and grounded in God’s Word. So in the scriptures we see that faith in itself is not sufficient. Without these other aspects working in your lives you don’t have faith, you have hope! What’s the difference? Hope is always in the future and faith is always NOW! You are believing and expecting now. You can have all the faith in the world, but without patience, confession, and action you will not see results!

“So what can cause my faith to fail”? Trusting in circumstances, unbelief, relying on natural intellect, double mindedness. James 1:8 says that “a double minded man is unstable in all of his ways!” A double minded man is a person who goes from believing the Word of God one moment, to trusting in the natural the next. They keep going back and forth thinking sometimes the Word works and sometimes it doesn’t.  Beloved the Word of God CANNOT FAIL! IT WILL NEVER FAIL!!  You can’t explain away your failures by changing the concept of God’s Word and you can’t doubt God’s word when things don’t turn out the way you think they should. That’s a double minded man and the scary thing is that the Word of God says “let not that man think he will receive ANYTHING of the Lord.” If you are going to step out in faith, you can’t waver.

Let’s look apetert a practical example in the life of Peter. Remember the story of Peter walking on water? This story pretty much sums up what we have been talking about. The Lord told Peter to come and he did. Peter trusted Jesus or had FAITH and then he had the ACTION by getting out of the boat an actually walked on water. But what happened next? He started to look at the wind and the waves. He took his eyes off of Jesus and didn’t have the PATIENCE to see this thing through. He stepped out in faith, but he was not consistent. He lost sight of the fact that Jesus told him to come and the only thing embedded in his mind now was the word “sink”. Friends, it doesn’t matter what the circumstances are around you! If God tells you to come, you better go and you better keep going until He tells you to stop. As long as you allow your mind to exalt itself against the Word of God you will fail every time because you are allowing your intellect to override His Word. That’s why 2 Corinthians warns us of the importance of tearing down every imagination that exalts itself against the most high God. Don’t let Satan’s lies, circumstances, fear, or even people persuade you away from your confidence in God’s Word.

Brothers and sisters as we end for today I want to leave you with one last thought. You don’t try to live by faith, you do it! If you are trying to live by faith, then you’re not. You can’t say I’m going to take a week to see if this thing works. You’re already in doubt. You already have a backup plan in case it doesn’t work out and you will fail. If you are going to live by faith you must commit your life to it and regardless of what the outcome is you continue to stand on the Word of God. If God doesn’t come through in your timing, it doesn’t mean He failed or made a mistake. You need to be as thankful for the sovereign will of God as we are for his revealed will or His manifest will. You need to praise God just as much as when he is allowing certain things in your life that don’t go according to your plan as you would if you saw the results instantaneously that you were expecting. According to your faith, be it unto you!!! WE MUST LIimagesVE BY FAITH!!!

Next week we are going to talk about what we are to be having faith and believing God for. I’ll give you one hint. It’s not more stuff! Oh we love to believe God for stuff. We love to have faith to obtain things in the natural. But the truth is we are to be exercising our faith to live in the supernatural. Jesus commissioned us to preach the gospel, to raise the dead, to heal the sick, to cast out devils. He said that “these signs shall follow those that believe”. That’s what we are to be believing for and that’s what we are going to talk about next week. I hope you join me as we look into the great commission Jesus has given us.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! Okay, Christmas is still a month away, but coming up this week is one of my favorite holidays: THANKSGIVING! Family, friends, football, and food! Does it really get much better than that? It’s a day that we’ve set aside to give thanks for all that we have!! However, I just don’t want to talk about Thanksgiving day this week. It’s the other 364 days of the year that I’m concerned about. It’s easy for us to gather together and be thankful (or at least act like it) on a day that’s dedicated to giving thanks. But as Christians we should have this same attitude of thanksgiving and gratitude 365 days a year!!

How thankfgivethanksul are you right now? Today as you are reading this blog (whatever may be going on in your life) how truly thankful are you? It’s easy when you hear this question for your mind to go to materialistic things, but I just don’t want to focus on that. How thankful are you for the things that aren’t materialistic? The things that are eternal like the presence of God! What does having that mean to you? What about things like a Godly spouse, or children that love the Lord, or friends that care about you? How about having a place where you can gather together and worship God or how about just having the Word of God? When we really think about it we have a lot to be thankful for!

In 2 Timothy 3:1-5 there is quite of list of evil things that men will be battling with in the last days. Right in the middle of this list is the word “unthankful”. You see unthankfulness is one of the biggest things that is gripping our society today and it has a tendency to creep into our lives as well. How do you see yourself this morning? One of our biggest problems is we can’t see ourselves clearly. We may express thanksgiving with our mouths, but the attitude of our heart is one of unthankfulness. Beloved, we need to realize that everything we have is a gift from God!

“Well my dog died, and my spouse left me, and my kids are sick, and I lost my job!” (Yeah I’ve heard that country music song too, lol). I Thessalonians 5:18 says “In EVERYTHING give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” “Yeah, but you don’t understand”. Oh, but I do! In my own life in the past several years my family and I have gone through many difficulties. My wife has had a couple of surgeries, my father in law died while on vacation, my sister was diagnosed with lymes disease, my dad had a stroke and is facing the possibility of prostate cancer, my mom has difficulty getting around due to recently finding out she has severe rheumatoid arthritis, my grandparents have passed away, I’ve had family walk away from the Lord, and even in my own body I found out that I have an orange sized mass that is lodged between my brain and my skull that makes things for me very difficult at times. I can name several other things, but I think you get the point (oh for those who don’t know me I’m only 34!). I say all that to say that I can relate to what many of you may be dealing with (and I’m sure some even more so than I). “Man, how can you stay thankful through all that?” Well the Word of God is the Word of God and it sturkeyays IN EVERYTHING give thanks!! In every situation and circumstance you find yourself in GIVE THANKS!!

Are you thankful for what you do have or are you caught up with what you don’t? Are you born again today? How about being thankful for your salvation? What a precious gift God has given us in his son Jesus!! It’s a gift of grace that we truly don’t deserve. You see that is one way we can remain thankful. Realize what you deserve! We all are sinners that deserve to be sent to a devil’s hell. But then Jesus stepped in!! What a blessing!! We need to realize that we truly don’t “deserve” anything that we have been given. Do you despise where God has you today? This ingratitude that we deal pretty much boils down to one thing. Do we trust God or not? Every time we are unthankful we are calling the sovereignty of God into question! You are beginning to question God’s love for you. “Yeah, but I’m dealing with all these trials and difficulties”. That’s the love of God for you! Hebrews 12:6 says that the Lord chastens those that he loves. He wants to cause you to become more like Him. Get your eyes off of the temporal and onto the eternal! Once the focus is on you and everything is about you, you’ve lost sight of Father and His love for you!!

Brothers and sisters this thankfulness that we are talking about isn’t just resigning yourself to what you have. “Well it’s all I got so I might as well be thankful” or “It can’t get any worse”. That’s still the wrong attitude. This thankfulness we are talking about is an attitude of worship (or worth-ship) to God for everything He has done for you. The psalmist said in chapter 34:1 “At ALL times I will bless Him, his praise shall continually be in my mouth”. You know what the word ALL means in the scriptures? It means ALL!! It means you praise him even when you don’t feel like it! You see David was set free in the midst of many of the trials in his life by praising and worshiping God and getting his eyes of himself and his circumstances. You want to be free today? Humble yourself! You wan’t to get rid of that heart of ungratefulness. Turn your eyes upon Jesus! Stop focusing on what you don’t have or what you are going through and start focusing on all He has done for you!

Comment on something that you are thankful for that the Lord has done in your life in the last year? Let’s glorify the Lord in all He has done for us!! Share this blog if you are truly thankful.

Fasting: God’s Weight Loss Plan!!

Today, I want to talk about something that many of us would consider one of those bad 4 letter words and that is the word: F-A-S-T, as in biblical fasting. I don’t know about you, but when I hear that word I just cringe. As recently as this past Sunday night when Pastor Star Scott was speaking during a panel at our Sunday evening service at Calvary Temple. I began to squirm in my chair. My flesh became uneasy at the mention of this very word. Why does that happen when we hear the word “fast”? It’s because our flesh and the things of this world have a greater dominance over our lives than we would like to admit. That’s what we want to talk about this week! Bringing our flesh and its appetites under subjection.

So how do yuncle samou like the title of this weeks post? Fasting is truly God’s weight loss plan for our lives. And while it’s not literally meant to be used as a method to lose bodily mass (at least in this context) Hebrews 12:1 tells us that we are to lay aside the weights and the sins that do so easily beset us. Fasting is one of the tools God has given us to use in laying aside these weights. What is fasting exactly? Well it’s setting aside something so that you can commune with Father. Fasting is not just talking about food. You could choose to fast any number of things that have a tendency to consume your time. As I was listening to this teaching I began to think about the fact that this was 37 years ago! There were a lot of things that the flesh had to war with in 1977, but think about all that’s come about since then. We now have thousands of TV channels, cell phones, the internet, video game systems. All of these things are daily vying for our attention.  The enemy puts them at our fingertips to rob us of the time we should be spending with our heavenly Father and being about the business of His kingdom.

If you want to truly hear from God. If you want to see the power of God that we have been talking about in recent months, then you need to begin to fast. Take time to set aside whatever it is that seems to dominate your life (entertainments, food, shopping, me time, etc…) and get into the Lord’s presence. YOU KNOW what it is that you need to fast. You know the thing that dominates your flesh. Don’t try to con God by giving up something that you know you don’t really battle with. If your lust is for food then don’t give up exercise. If your flesh is consumed with watching football then don’t offer up knitting quilts. “Well are you saying that I can never do these things?” Nope you can do whatever you want. IF it’s led by the spirit!! What I’m saying is you’ll be surprised what your likes and your dislikes will become when you get a taste of the Lord’s presence and your life is totally given over to God. I’m not talking about asceticism. Just start setting some things aside to seek the Lord. Taste and see that the Lord is good!

“Do I really need to fast?” Well (as we always do) let’s take a look at the Word of God. Fasting occurs all throughout the Old and New tv headtestament. Men, women, and even whole nations were called to participate. Before many major battles, before temptations, before commissioning people, before major decisions you will see that the people of God routinely set themselves aside to fast and pray so that they could hear the voice of God. Beloved we’ve been called to a life of Christ likeness. And there is no greater example of somebody that fasted and prayed so that He could commune with his heavenly Father than Jesus. After He was baptized, Jesus started His ministry with a 40 day fast. He did this because he knew what lay ahead for Him. If we are going to be as effective as Jesus was in His earthly ministry we need to receive the power that he had. Jesus said in Matthew 17 that nothing shall be impossible to us, but the power to do these things only comes by prayer and fasting.

One of the things we need to realize about fasting is that it is not an affliction. Fasting causes us to be liberated!! Fasting will help you bring your flesh under subjection so that you can commune with God and reach spiritual heights like you’ve never known before. Oh, Satan will try to lie to you and tell you how it’s not worth it, and how awful it’s going to be, and you don’t really need to give that up, you’re really not that bad etc…He will try to tempt you like he did Jesus in the wilderness, but we need to tell Him to get behind us. Combat him just like Jesus did with the Word of God. IT IS WRITTEN!! Your flesh will kick, scream, and whine just like mine did this past Sunday night, but you have to put it under. If you put that thing away and fast, and stop crying about it, and stop reminding God of this “great thing” you’ve given up for Him you will begin to hear from God. You will be able to call on the name of the Lord and HE WILL answer you!!

Friends if wecartoon are going to see apostolic demonstration of God’s power then we are going to have to start living apostolic lives. These guys weren’t caught up with ease and entertainment. They were caught up, just as Jesus was, with doing the will of He that sent them. We have to keep our lines of communication clear! Too often they are clogged up with so much stuff that we can’t hear the voice of God to carry out His work as ambassadors. Fasting is an absolute necessity if we are going to stand in these last days. It’s a commandment. Jesus said in Matthew 6 “when you fast”. So let’s be honest with ourselves as we end for today and realize there is a whole lot more of the world in us then we would like to admit. Do you want to see your life transformed? Do you want to get out from under the bondage of sin? Do you want to see the power of God demonstrated in your life like never before? These things come only by prayer and fasting!!

Has the Lord impressed on your heart to fast something in recent weeks and months? If so feel free to share in the comments section the thing that you have chosen to set aside and how that has impacted your walk with the Lord.
