Can you identify the 3 images that are pictured throughout this post? These 3 images represent some of the most common fears in our society today. Everyday you turn on the news you are probably hearing about all of these things. This week we want to talk about a subject that is one of the biggest tricks of the devil and he has many bound under the power of it and that is FEAR!! Fear is the tool Satan uses to bring destruction to this world and to establish his kingdom here on earth. It is Satan’s source of power over this world. Fear, is the one thing that Satan uses to keep us from moving in the authority that God has given us. But, there is good news! God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.
If you’ve been reading my blog since the beginning you will remember that our very first series was on “How to Keep Your Faith From Failing”. Well beloved, this fear that we are talking about is the exact opposite of that faith. Simply put, fear is faith in the devil. Did you glance down the post and figure out the images yet? I’ll help you out some. The images are a strain of the ebola virus, the stock market, and our kids futures. These 3 things along with so many others are things many today are terrified of today. “Well those things don’t bother me”. Okay, what about your job security, your finances, your health, your relationship status, your retirement, big brother, your lifestyle….?? Did I hit on something yet?? If we are honest with ourselves all of us are fearful about something and Satan would love to have us bound up by these things. It’s not Satan’s physical might that powers this world, it’s his deception into causing us to think that God doesn’t love us and that He will fail to meet our needs. Satan wants to use fear to keep us from standing on the Word of God. He wants to use fear to keep us operating in the natural realm instead of moving into the realm of the supernatural where he knows he’s a defeated foe!
“Well how do I get out from under this fear? The world can be a very scary place!” Well the first thing we have to realize is that we can NEVER act on fear!! God is not the source of fear, anxiety, or confusion! The moment you begin to become fearful you need to realize that Satan is on the scene. Begin to resist the devil and the Bible says he will flee from you. We need to begin to move in faith. Do you remember in previous posts where faith comes from? Romans 10:17 says “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” If you’re moving in fear, you’ve now begun to move outside of God and are now off course. Get back into the Word of God which is His will for your life!! One of the books in His Word that I love to read and is full of scriptures to combat fear is the Psalms. In Psalms 23:4 it says “yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, because you are with me.” Psalms 27:1 says “The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear.” And in chapter 118 the psalmist declares “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” The Word of God will stop the tidal wave of fear that’s coming against you!! We must stand on the Word of God regardless of what the circumstances say! It’s very easy to move into the natural to get out of fear, but there really is only one way!! Abide in God’s Word!!
Brothers and sisters we need to make sure we have the armor of God on! One of the most important articles of the armor we must use to combat fear is the shield of faith. The shield of faith is the weapon God has given us to quench ALL the fiery darts and lies of the enemy. If your shield isn’t up, your breastplate of righteousness (or your rights as a believer) will be continually bombarded. The next thing you know your righteousness will be destroyed. Oh, you may last for a while, but one by one your rights will be challenged and taken away from you. The shield of faith along with the sword of the spirit (God’s word that we talked about earlier) are the tools we must be on the offensive with if we are going to combat these lies and attacks of the enemy. There is no failure when you’re moving in faith! Oh, there may be a detour or two along the way, but never failure.
As we wind down in this post on fear let’s reflect on a group of people that a lot of times lived in fear. That group of people was the Israelites. You see, the Israelites got into trouble because instead of looking at the past victories and all that God had done for them they were bound by fear because of their current problems. In fact it was the evil report of fear (there are giants in the land!!!) that caused the Israelites to wander around in the wilderness for 40 years and die. Thank God for men of God like Caleb!! Let’s go up and take this mountain bless God!!! That’s the attitude we need to have as believers. Though everything in the natural may seemingly be against us, we must remember what God has promised us. We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus!!! If He’s for us nobody can be against us!! Fear is failure, our faith is the victory! So let me leave you with this question. Are we going to be a generation that fears or are we going to be a generation that takes the promised land?
